My boss told me my daily check-in emails were too long and to just list the three main things I'm working on.

I started sending bullet points instead of paragraphs and got a 'much better' reply in 15 minutes.

Honestly, that sounds like a win to me. Some bosses just want the quick facts, not the whole story. Getting a fast "much better" means you fixed the exact thing that was bugging them. I wouldn't overthink it.

True, but what happens when that short answer is the only feedback you ever get? Doesn't that make it hard to know what to do next time, or if you're actually improving? Feels like you're just guessing at what they want instead of having a real talk about it.

My last boss was exactly like that. He would give a ten word reply to a two page report, and at first it felt dismissive. Over time I learned his short "good" meant he trusted me to handle the details. That quick approval is a sign you understand their real priorities without needing a long meeting. It saves everyone time and shows you're on the same page.
