Rant: my coworker bragged about waking up at 4:30am and I honestly think that is not a win
We were standing in the break room on Tuesday and he went on for like 10 minutes about his 4:30am alarm and his cold shower and his journal. He said he got 12 things done before 7am but he also admitted he nods off at his desk by 2pm every single day. That does not sound like winning to me, that sounds like being tired all the time with extra steps. I sleep until 6:40 and I still got my kid to school and hit the gym twice last week, so who is actually ahead here? I think we confuse suffering with progress way too much, and half these morning routines are just people showing off how little they rest. Small wins should be things that make your day better, not a contest for who is most exhausted. Is anyone else tired of the 5am club stuff or is that just me?
And it goes deeper than just being tired, because that 2pm crash means he is running on empty for half his day. So he is basically trading his best hours for a badge of honor, and the work he does in the afternoon is probably not his best. Rest is not lazy, it is what lets you actually show up, so the 5am club can keep the trophy if it means feeling wrecked by lunch.
