Started tracking my sleep debt with a $12 notebook instead of my phone, and the first month showed me I was short 23 hours
For two years I used my phone to track sleep, and the blue light and endless scrolling meant I would check the app at 1am and mess up my own data. Three months ago I bought a $12 paper notebook from Walgreens and started writing down one line each morning: what time I turned the light off and how I felt on a 1 to 5 scale. The phone app said I averaged 7 hours a night, but the notebook showed I was really getting about 6 hours 15 minutes most nights, which added up to 23 hours of lost sleep in the first month alone. I stopped chasing a perfect score and just started going to bed 30 minutes earlier on the days I marked a 2 or lower. After 6 weeks my average hit 7 hours and those bad mornings dropped from 11 to 4 per month. Has anyone else tried paper tracking for something like this, and did the numbers surprise you too?
