That moment I realized I had been doing dishes completely backward for 20 years
I was washing dishes at my sister's house in Cleveland last weekend and she pointed out I was scrubbing the greasy pans first, then the glasses. She said the grease just transfers to the clean stuff and I'd been ruining my glasses for decades. Anybody else have a basic kitchen habit they only fixed after someone called them out?

Is it really that big a deal though? I mean, you're washing everything in hot soapy water anyway, so by the time you're done, the soap should be cutting through the grease, right? I've always done greasy pans first and never noticed any film on my glasses, but maybe i just don't look as closely as your sister. Also, if you rinse everything well after scrubbing, the order shouldn't matter that much. Your mileage may vary, but I think people overthink this stuff sometimes.

My buddy once bragged about his dishwashing system where he always did the silverware first because he read somewhere that the metal could react with leftover food particles. Turned out he was confusing dishwashing with some science experiment about electroplating. He spent a whole year organizing his sink by material type before his wife finally told him he was being ridiculous.
