That stat about parking garage ramps being steeper than old building codes finally clicked for me

I was reading a city planning report from 1992 about the parking garage downtown where I work, and it said the ramp slope is 15% which is way over the modern 10% max. Found out they grandfathered in decades of steeper ramps because fixing them would cost millions. Has anyone else run into a random old regulation that still affects your daily life?

Did your friend ever try to get the city to inspect that ramp for safety violations? I had a buddy who parked in a garage where the ramp was so steep his truck's undercarriage would scrape every time, and he emailed the building department. They made the owner repave the ramp to modern spec within six months after a compliance check.

Man, I got one. My friend Lisa drives this busted old Civic and she parks in this ramp downtown that has this one spot on level 3 where you basically have to floor it to get up the ramp. She scraped her bumper so bad last year it cracked. She called the building manager and they were like "yeah that ramp is from 1988, it doesn't meet code anymore but we don't have to fix it." So now she always parks on level 2 and walks up the stairs to avoid the spot. Wild that a 30 year old mistake is still messing up people's cars.
