Went to Home Depot for a single washer and came out with a whole new drill

I just needed one rubber washer for a leaky hose, $0.47. But then I walked past the tool aisle and saw a display model Milwaukee on clearance for $80 off. Ended up grabbing it and walked out $130 poorer but hey, my old drill finally bit the dust after 6 years. Has anyone else walked into a store for one thing and totally failed the mission?

My dad once went to the auto parts store for wiper fluid and came back with a new battery, a floor jack, and some random LED light strip. Forgot the wiper fluid too. Had to make a second trip.

Is it even a real trip to the auto parts store if you don't come back with something you didn't plan on getting? I swear, those places are like a black hole for my wallet too. @jamesm38 I mean, the LED strip is kind of a classic impulse buy, they get you with the cheap stuff by the counter. But at least your dad came home with useful stuff, my dad once went for brake fluid and came back with a neon green air freshener that smelled like fake cherries and nothing else.

You know what, I used to be one of those people who would roll my eyes at stories like this, like just stick to the list and get out. But then I went in for a simple oil filter last month and somehow walked out with a new set of seat covers and a magnetic phone mount that I didn't even know I needed. So yeah, I totally get it now, those places are designed to suck you in. Your dad's fake cherry air freshener is honestly a classic move though, it's like they know you have no self control once you're past the front door.
