A cashier in Toledo made me rethink my coupon game

I used to just clip whatever came in the mail and figure it was good enough. One day this older lady behind the counter at Kroger looked at my cart and said, 'You're leaving money on the table, honey, check the store app first.' She showed me how stacking store digital coupons with manufacturer ones works, and I swear I saved $38 on a $90 grocery run that same week. That was two years ago, and now I check the app before I even make my list, has anyone else had a stranger's tip that completely changed their savings routine?

The real game changer for me wasn't the app itself, it was realizing the store app prices are different from the shelf tags sometimes. A lady at Meijer told me to scan items as I put them in the cart, not after, because prices update mid week and you can catch price drops before they hit the tag. That tip alone has saved me way more than any coupon stack. It also keeps me from putting stuff back once I see the total at the register, which used to happen all the time. So now my routine is app first, then scan everything while I shop, then double check at the self checkout before I pay. It sounds like a lot but once you get the hang of it, it's just how you shop now.
