Appreciation post: My cheap coffee maker finally gave out after 8 years

Honestly, I was stuck between buying another $25 basic one or finally trying that $90 programmable machine everyone talks about. I went cheap again, and tbh, the coffee tastes exactly the same but the carafe lid already feels flimsy. Anyone have a specific brand that's actually lasted them a good while?

So you're saying the cheap one already feels cheap? That's the real problem, they save money on the plastic parts. My last one had a lid that cracked in a year. I'd trust a story like jones.nancy's about a 12 year old machine more than the box promises. Those older models were built different, before they made everything to break.

My $40 Mr. Coffee has lasted 12 years and still works great.

My friend's fancy programmable machine broke in two years, but her mom's basic drip brewer from a decade ago is still going strong. It seems like the simple ones with fewer parts just have less to go wrong. I'm starting to believe the old ones really were built better.
