Cashier at Safeway in Reno told me her trick for the $5 rotisserie chicken, and my grocery bill dropped $40 a month
She said the ones marked down to $5 after 7pm are the same birds, just pulled off the warmer before closing, and my store in Reno does it every night like clockwork. I started swinging by on my way home from my route and now I grab two, eat one hot and pick the meat off the other for sandwiches the rest of the week. Does anyone know if other chains do a set markdown time like that, or is it just whatever the deli feels like doing that day?
Idk, calling it a "trick" feels like a stretch since it's really just the store clearing out food before it gets tossed. Safeway marks those birds down because they can't legally sell them the next day, so you're buying stuff near its end, not some secret deal. Maybe it's just me but that $40 a month savings comes from eating chicken that was sitting under a heat lamp all evening, which is fine, just not the same as a fresh bird at noon.
