Caught my dad using a coupon book at the diner in 2005 and it changed how I shop forever

We were at Lou's Grill on Rt 9 getting pancakes and he pulled out this little blue coupon book from the car. I thought it was so embarrassing but he got two breakfasts for like $6 total. Now I'm 38 and I still check the Valpak mailer before I buy anything.

My dad had a stack of those Entertainment books in the glovebox of his Buick back in '97, I remember the leathery smell. He'd pull one out at the pizza place and I'd sink down in the booth, but he always got a large pie and two sodas for like eight bucks. Now I'm the one digging through the mail for the coupon flyers before I even think about ordering takeout.

Eight bucks for a large pie and two drinks. Now you're lucky if the coupon brings a large pizza down to $15 and they still charge extra for the soda. Inflation hit the pizza game hard, didn't it? Nothing like flipping through those coupon books like some kind of bargain hunter's bible. These days it's all app codes and loyalty points, feels like you need a spreadsheet to save two bucks on breadsticks. At least your dad got to look cool pulling out that book. Now we're just digging through the recycling bin for the Pizza Hut flyer hoping the coupon hasn't expired yet.
