Got told by my daughter that I was throwing away money on brand name dishwasher pods
She showed me the unit price difference at the Harris Teeter in Falls Church and I switched to the store brand, saving about $4 a box, and honestly I haven't noticed any difference in how clean the dishes come out - has anyone else found a generic that actually works worse than the name brand?

Wait, are you telling me you spent YEARS paying for the "premium" dish soap experience and never thought to try the cheap stuff? Man, I feel your pain because I did the EXACT same thing with laundry detergent. I was convinced Tide was the ONLY thing keeping my clothes from falling apart. Then my wife bought the Great Value brand during a sale, and I swear my jeans are just as clean and my t-shirts aren't any more faded. It's literally the SAME result for half the money. I'm with you on this one - the generic dishwasher pods work perfectly fine. I think the biggest scam is the marketing that makes us feel like we're somehow betraying our appliances if we don't buy the name brand. You're saving $4 a box for no difference at all. That adds up quick over a year.

Yeah, the "betraying our appliances" thing got me. I used to buy name-brand garbage bags because I thought the cheap ones would rip and make a mess. Then I tried the store brand and they work just as good.
