Hit $500 in cashback rewards last month and it felt like free money

I've been using a 2% cashback card for groceries and gas for about 18 months, and the total hit $500 last week without me really tracking it. Has anyone else noticed how fast those small purchases add up when you just set it and forget it?

Has the dopamine hit of seeing that cashback number roll in ever made you buy something you definitely didn't need? I once bought a fancy cheese grater just because my rewards funded half of it.

Rewards are just a rebate on stuff you already planned to buy, so that cheese grater was technically 50% off a need if you grate cheese more than once a year.

Started noticing the same thing with my streaming subscriptions actually. Back when they were all separate, I never thought about it. Now you bundle a few together and suddenly you're paying for a whole other category of stuff you barely use. Same logic applies to cashback. Those little 2% cuts on coffee and gas add up to real money over time. It's wild how small habits you don't even notice can snowball into something solid, whether it's rewards or just regular spending.
