Just realized my grocery app's 'digital coupons' are different from the store's paper ones

I clipped a $2 off digital coupon for cereal, but the paper flyer at the Kroger in Columbus had a $3 off one for the same box, so now I check both. Anyone else find better deals on the physical ads?

Figure they're running a science experiment on us like sean782 said. My phone said the big bag of chips was a dollar off last Tuesday. Get to the store and the little shelf tag promises two dollars off. So now I'm the guy standing in the snack aisle holding up my phone next to the price tag, doing the math like it's a final exam. They're just seeing if we'll still buy it when the deal is worse.

Yeah, that's so annoying. Always gotta double check now.

My local Walmart had the same thing last week with laundry soap. The app showed a $1.50 off digital coupon, but the tag on the shelf was a $2.50 rollback. I read a whole article about how stores sometimes split their deals to track who shops how. It feels like they're testing what we'll put up with to save a dollar. Now I just walk in and check the actual price tags because it's never the same as my phone.
