My grocery bill dropped by $40 last month after I switched to a different store.

I was going to the big chain near my apartment in Phoenix, but a friend told me to check out the Food City on 35th Ave. Their produce is way cheaper, and the store brand stuff is solid. I got a whole chicken for $5.99, which is like half what I was paying. Anyone else have a go-to spot for cheap groceries that isn't a warehouse club?

Honestly, I've had the opposite experience with those smaller chains. The one near me always has produce that goes bad in like two days, so you end up throwing money away. Saving a few bucks up front doesn't help if half the bag of peppers is mushy by Wednesday.

Yeah but come on, is it that big of a deal? You just check the peppers before you buy them. If they feel soft, don't get that bag. It's not like every single item in the store is bad. Sometimes you get a good batch that lasts the whole week. It feels like people make this into a bigger problem than it is.

Ugh, totally feel that. My local spot is hit or miss too. Gotta check every single avocado.
