My neighbor swore I was wasting money buying name-brand gas. I've been using the cheap stuff for 6 months now.
So my neighbor Dave, who's a retired mechanic, told me last year that all gas is basically the same and I'm just paying for the brand name. I used to always fill up at Shell or Chevron because I thought the detergents kept my engine cleaner. But Dave said the store brand gas at Sheetz or Speedway is the same stuff just cheaper, about 20 cents less per gallon. I started using the cheap gas back in March, and now my car has started idling rough and the check engine light came on last week. My mechanic says it could be dirty injectors from lower quality fuel. But my brother says Dave is right and I probably just hit some bad luck with something else. Has anyone else had a car act up after switching to discount gas?

Jumped right off the page reading this because the exact same thing happened to me with my old Honda Civic. I switched to the cheap gas from a no-name station and within a couple months it started sputtering and hesitating on hills, totally rough idle just like you described. My mechanic found the injectors were clogged up and he said he sees it all the time with people who try to save a few bucks on gas, so I'm team name-brand now forever.

Dave's right, your injector issue is probably a coincidence, not the gas.

Isn't it funny how we all jump to blame the most obvious thing first, @the_emma, but the real culprit is usually something boring and random? Happens with everything from car trouble to phone glitches.
