Pro tip: I realized I was paying for convenience I didn't need at the grocery store.

For years I'd grab the pre-washed, bagged lettuce and salad kits, thinking the extra dollar or two was worth it. Last month I bought a whole head of romaine for 99 cents and washed it myself, and it lasted twice as long in the fridge. Do you think the time saved is ever worth the premium for pre-prepped stuff, or is it always a bad deal?

That "lasted twice as long" part really hits home. I was the same with pre-cut veggies, but the fresh stuff just holds up so much better. The extra minute of prep feels worth it now.

Wait, is a paper towel in a container really that big of a deal? It's just veggies.

Totally agree with you @terry677, that extra prep time is a game changer. I started storing my fresh veggies in glass containers with a dry paper towel at the bottom. It honestly makes them last even longer and stay crisp.
