Spent 45 minutes hunting for a coupon that saved me $2.50

Was at Target in Portland grabbing dish soap and paper towels. Saw a sign for a digital coupon but couldn't find it in the app. Stood there like an idiot refreshing the page for 45 minutes. Finally found it buried under 'personalized offers' and saved a grand total of $2.50. Anyone else waste way too much time chasing tiny savings?

Set a five minute timer and walk away if it doesn't pop up.

You know what, I used to roll my eyes at people who did stuff like this. Thought it was just pure stubbornness or something. But then last month I spent a solid 30 minutes in a Safeway parking lot trying to get a stupid digital coupon to load for a bag of frozen shrimp. Saved like $1.80. It's not even about the money at that point, it's about the principle of the thing. Once you see that sign saying "use app for extra savings" it's like a challenge. You dig in your heels and suddenly it's personal. I get it now. Those app designers know exactly what they're doing to us.

It's the same trap as those rewards cards that track everything you buy - they count on people getting hooked on small wins. The whole system is designed to make you feel like you're beating them at their own game when really you're just spending more time in their store. You end up paying with your time and patience instead of your wallet, and they still come out ahead.
