Spent $60 on couponing apps and got back maybe $12 in savings

My phone died right at the checkout line last Tuesday and I couldn't pull up any of the digital coupons I'd loaded, so I paid full price for everything. Anyone else have trouble keeping track of these apps when the store's wifi is spotty, or is it just me?

You say they're "doing their marketing for them," but that $12 is real money in my pocket, and the apps pay for themselves if you just use them right. Honestly, the dead phone thing is on you for not screenshotting the barcodes ahead of time, and paper coupons are way easier to lose than a phone.

That $48 gap is basically the cost of a decent dinner out, which kind of makes me wonder if the whole thing is worth the hassle in the first place. I mean, you loaded coupons, saved some, lost some to a dead battery, and you're still ahead by a little bit. The real issue is that these apps are designed to make you feel like you're missing out on some huge deal, but in reality you're just doing their marketing for them. Maybe just pick one or two stores you actually shop at and stick with paper coupons or the store's own weekly ad. Are you really losing sleep over the $12 you saved, or is it more about the principle?
