Appreciation post: Old timer taught me about patience at the shop

Talked to a retired CAT mechanic named Frank at the parts counter. He said 'speed kills rebuilds' and suddenly my whole approach to swapping injectors clicked. Anyone else learn more from one conversation than a whole training class?

and the part where he said "speed kills rebuilds" really stuck with me too. i was rushing through a head gasket job on a 6.0 powerstroke once, trying to beat the clock. skipped a couple steps torquing things in the right sequence. ended up warping the head bad enough i had to buy a new one. lesson learned hard way. now i check torque specs three times and take my time on every single bolt. that old timer Frank sounds like he saved you a lot of headache down the road.

Did you hear about my buddy Tom who did the same thing on a Cummins last spring?
