Just realized I've been torquing head bolts wrong for years...

Was helping a buddy with a Cummins rebuild and he pointed out my torque sequence was way off. I'd been going in a circle instead of criss-cross pattern since trade school. Anyone else have a moment where they found out they missed something basic like that?

Man that stings. I did the same thing with main bearing caps for like five years before a machinist set me straight. Felt like a total hack when he showed me the correct pattern. But hey at least you caught it before something let go, that's the important part.

Read somewhere that torque sequence errors cause a surprising number of rebuild failures.
