Last Wednesday was an absolute nightmare with a blown head gasket on an old 7.3 Powerstroke
I had this F-450 towed in from a farm outside of Denver, owner said it was just overheating a bit. Got it on the lift at 8am, pulled the radiator cap and saw milk immediately. Spent the next 9 hours fighting rusted bolts on the exhaust manifolds, broke two Snap-On sockets on the injector hold downs. Finally got the head off at 5pm and found the gasket was totally shredded between cylinders 3 and 4. Has anyone else seen those 7.3s crack the block around the head bolt holes too, or was I just lucky that day?

...and then my buddy Steve had one that did exactly that. He was doing a head gasket on a 7.3 in his own shop, got the head off and found the block was cracked right where the bolt threads into the hole on cylinder 4. He had to weld it up with a special rod and then retap the threads. Took him three tries to get it to hold. He said it was the most time he'd ever spent on a single bolt hole.

That 7.3 story gives me chills just reading it. I mean, one cracked block from a single bolt hole mistake is a nightmare. Idk how Steve had the patience to weld and retap three times for one hole.

Snap-On had me fill out a warranty form for a broken 3/8 ratchet last month and that took two weeks.
