Old timer told me I was torquing head bolts wrong for 5 years

Dude at a shop in Tulsa watched me torque a 6.7 Powerstroke and stopped me halfway. Said I wasn't going in the right sequence and was skipping the final angle step on the inner bolts. Changed my whole approach now I double check every spec on the actual valve cover sticker instead of memory. Anyone else get humbled by an old school mechanic like that?

Yeah I'll admit I used to think those older mechanics were just stuck in their ways, but after watching one of them diagnose a weird misfire by just listening to the engine for five minutes... I had to eat my words. He didn't even need a fancy scan tool, just a stethoscope and his ear. It really changed how I look at some of that old school know-how, you know?
