PSA: found out the hard way that used oil filters need to sit longer than I thought

Compared draining a filter for 2 hours versus 6 hours last week in my shop in Nashville, and that extra time got out twice as much old oil. Has anyone else run into trouble with still-wet filters making a mess on the shop floor?

Man, that's just how it goes with anything that's "done" - I swear half the stuff I think is ready to go actually needs way more time than I wanna give it, whether it's filters or leftover greasy pans.

Compared draining a filter for 2 hours versus 6 hours" - yeah, that's one of those things you don't think about until you're mopping up a puddle. I had a buddy who used to just set his filters on the floor overnight and then complain about the stain the next morning. I started putting mine in a cut-off milk jug (the half gallon kind works perfect) and just letting them sit until I remember them, which is usually the next day. But between you and me, I've definitely grabbed one that I thought was done only to have it drip down my arm when I went to toss it in the trash. So yeah, you're not alone in finding this out the messy way.
