Found a better way to organize my art folders after 3 years of chaos
Last week I finally got tired of digging through 500+ unlabeled layers and files for a client piece. I spent a whole evening renaming everything with a simple system: project name, date, then version number like 01, 02, 03. It took about 4 hours total, but now I can pull up any old commission in under a minute instead of guessing. I also started saving a flat JPG preview of each stage inside the folder, which helps me check progress without opening the heavy file. Honestly wish I'd done this back when I first started posting my work here. Has anyone else tried a naming or backup routine that actually stuck for them?

4 hours on one night seems like a lot of effort for something you could have tackled over a weekend with a few breaks. The flat JPG preview thing is actually pretty smart though, I might steal that one since it beats opening up a 2GB file just to check where you left off. Just hope you didn't spend more time organizing than you do actually drawing, that would be a real shame.
