I thought AI art was just a cheap gimmick until I saw a piece that won a local contest

After seeing the winning piece from the 'Pixel Dreams' contest in Seattle, which used AI for initial concepts but was heavily reworked in Procreate over 40 hours, I finally get that it's a legit tool when used as a starting point, not a finish line.

Hold up, so they spent 40 hours fixing the AI's work? That just proves my point. If the starting image was good enough to win, why did it need all that manual labor? Sounds like the contest actually rewarded the Procreate skills, not the AI part.

Yeah, that's a really good point actually.

Wait, that's the whole point though. The AI part was just the sketch. The contest DID reward the Procreate skills, that's what made it art.
