Just crossed 1000 followers and my art style suddenly feels off

I hit 1000 followers on my portfolio site after sharing a timelapse of a cityscape piece I did in Portland, and now every new piece I start feels like I'm copying what got me there instead of pushing forward. That milestone made me second-guess the loose brush style I've used for 3 years, because the numbers say people want that look but my gut says I'm boxing myself in. Has anyone else felt their work change after a big follower count, or did you just ignore the spike and keep making what you like?
