Picked a tablet pen over a mouse for my first digital drawing, total disaster at first

So I finally got into digital art a few months back and had to decide between using a screen tablet pen or just sticking with my old mouse. I went with the pen because everyone online swears by it, but man my first week was rough. I couldn't stop my hand from shaking and my lines looked like a drunk spider crawled across the screen. I spent like 4 hours trying to draw a simple circle and it came out as a lumpy potato. The pressure sensitivity felt like a alien tool in my hand. Then I tried a mouse for one sketch and it was way easier to control but felt so clunky for shading. Has anyone else had a rough switch to a pen and tablet? I'm still using the pen but I swear my wrist wants to quit daily.

Honestly it's like learning any new tool you gotta unlearn all the old muscle memory first.

Yeah the whole "unlearn old muscle memory" thing with @jamesm38 is spot on, but it's more like you're adding a new way of doing something not fully erasing the old one.

Read a study that said old habits don't die, they just get buried under new ones.
