That $400 light panel in the corner gallery was a distraction

Went to the new digital art space downtown on Tuesday. Everyone was raving about the glowing abstract piece, but all I could focus on was the screen flickering every 8 seconds. Am I the only one who walks into a showcase and notices the hardware lagging first?

My buddy Mike went to a VR gallery last spring and spent the whole time watching the headset cables get tangled around people's ankles. He said the actual art was probably fine but he couldn't focus on anything except waiting for someone to trip lmao. Guess some of us just notice the scaffolding before the painting, you know.

Wait, did the flickering happen on the same refresh rate as the overhead lights? Tbh I had a similar thing at a pop-up show last month. The main video piece was cool, but the projector mount was visibly vibrating from the HVAC system. Couldn't stop staring at the wobble. Honestly it just kills the whole mood when the tech is sloppy, especially for something that costs that much. Ngl, sometimes I wonder if the artists even check their own gear before opening night.
