Used to hate simple color palettes until a client proved me wrong

A lady came in last month with a piece that only used three shades of blue and some white. I thought it would look boring as hell. But seeing it printed and framed completely changed my mind. The restraint made the whole thing feel clean and intentional. Anyone else been surprised by how little color you actually need?

Guessed I was wrong too. Thought simple palettes were just lazy work but then I saw a piece with nothing but warm grays and a tiny bit of yellow. It was a portrait and the lack of color made the person's eyes pop like crazy. Made me realize busy palettes can actually distract from what matters. Now I try to strip things down more myself. Simple is harder than it looks.

Read something similar about how a lot of classic movie posters only use two or three colors... makes you realize how much power a limited palette can have when you do it right.
