Deleted all my old social media accounts instead of archiving them - what a difference

I had to pick between taking hours to download and archive years of posts from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter or just hitting delete on all of them. Went with delete because I figured I never looked at that stuff anyway and it was just taking up mental space. Honestly? Best choice I made for my digital life. The urge to scroll back through old drama is totally gone, and my phone feels lighter somehow. I did lose a few photos I meant to save but honestly nothing I really miss. Has anyone else done a full wipe like this instead of saving everything?

Wait, doesn't deleting your accounts flag Facebook and Google to keep your data around for months anyway? I'd love the peace of mind but I'm skeptical it really disappears when you hit that button.

They DEFINITELY keep your data for months after you hit delete. Facebook brags about having "backups" and "archive copies" in their terms of service. Google's the same way - they keep your search history and location data in a "soft delete" state for like 90 days. You're right to be skeptical because the whole "delete your account" thing is more like hitting a snooze button than actually erasing everything.
