My $30 Google Photos storage plan turned into a 3 hour nightmare

I finally hit the 15GB free limit on Google Photos and got the popup saying I needed to buy space. Instead of just paying $30 a year like a normal person, I spent a whole Sunday manually sorting through 4,000 blurry screenshots and duplicate photos. After 3 hours I gave up and bought the 100GB plan anyway. Has anyone else wasted way more time than the cost of just paying for extra storage?

Hold up, did you actually delete any of those duplicates or just end up backing everything up anyway? I'm curious if the manual sorting did anything useful or if it was just a way to feel like you earned the right to pay Google. What was the final tally on stuff you actually got rid of?

My buddy Mike tried the same thing last year. Spent an entire Saturday night deleting old memes and screenshots of receipts, thinking he'd save like 10 bucks. Ended up accidentally trashing his whole camera roll from a vacation in Mexico because Google's bin only keeps stuff for 60 days. Called me at midnight PANICKING because he couldn't find the photos of him getting proposed to on the beach. Had to pay some data recovery service $200 to get them back. He just pays for the 100GB now and laughs about it.
