Got stuck on dinner ideas at the Fairfield farmers market last Saturday

I was walking around the Fairfield farmers market last Saturday and hit a total wall on what to cook for the week. Saw this old guy selling fresh basil and he just looked at me and said 'you got eggs and tomatoes at home? Make a frittata.' Simple but it actually clicked. I bought three bunches of basil and ended up making frittatas all week with whatever veggies I had. Saved me from ordering takeout four nights in a row. Now I hit up the market every Saturday and let whatever is cheap decide my dinners. Anyone else find a random stranger's suggestion that just worked better than scrolling through recipes for an hour?

Oh man, that old guy sounds like a total market hero. Last year at the Burlington farmers market, some lady selling mushrooms told me to just roast whatever looked good with salt and oil, and I swear I haven't used a single recipe since. It's such a relief to not stress over planning every meal. My fridge is just full of random squash and onions now, and I throw them in a roasting pan with some chicken thighs. I bet that basil frittata trick saves you a ton of money compared to scrolling through cooking blogs for an hour.

Wait, did the old guy give you any tips on what kind of eggs work best? Around here some of the farm eggs are way richer than the store ones and I swear they make a difference in frittatas. I ended up buying a whole flat of them from a lady selling duck eggs and now I'm trying to figure out what else to do with them, my fridge is just eggs and sadness at this point. It's funny how one person's random advice can turn into a whole new way of cooking though, like now I'm just grabbing whatever looks good and figuring it out later. Last week I grabbed some weird purple carrots and roasted them with honey, turned out better than anything I've planned out. The farmers market really is just a bunch of old timers who know their stuff and I love it.
