My coworker said to just freeze leftover tomato paste in teaspoon blobs and it actually works better than the tube stuff

I rolled my eyes when she told me about it but after three months of grabbing frozen paste cubes for sauces and soups instead of wrestling with a half-used can that always goes moldy I have to admit she was right and now I'm wondering if anyone else has kitchen hacks they ignored forever that turned out golden?

That "rolling my eyes then admitting she was right" part hit me hard. My buddy Tim told me for years to keep a bag of veggie scraps in the freezer for stock and I always thought he was being extra. Then one day I saw him pull out this sad freezer bag full of onion peels and carrot ends and he made this amazing broth. I finally started doing it too and now I have a bag in my freezer that I add to all the time. It saves me money and my soups taste way better than with the boxed stuff.

Did Tim also look smug when you finally tried it? That's the worst part, when they're right and you know they're gonna bring it up later. I had the exact same thing with my neighbor and the veggie scrap bag. I literally watched her grab a bag of potato peels and celery leaves and turn it into stock that smelled better than anything I'd bought. Felt like a clown for throwing all that stuff away for years. Now my freezer has a ziploc bag that's literally just onion skins and carrot tops and random herb stems. It feels stupid but every time I make soup I dump it in and it works like magic. The best part is it costs nothing and you feel like you're being smart instead of wasteful.
