Spent 45 minutes hunting for one spice, ended up reordering my whole pantry

Last night I needed smoked paprika for a stew and dug through two drawers, a cabinet, and the fridge before finding it behind a bag of old rice, 45 minutes later. How does anyone keep track of spices when they all look like identical little jars and you move them around every time you cook? Is there a system that actually works, or do I just need to label every lid with a marker tomorrow?

Everybody hits this wall eventually. My trick is to stop sorting by type and sort by use, so baking stuff lives together and taco night stuff lives together, and whatever I use twice a week gets the front row. Grab a cheap lazy susan or two from the dollar store, put the daily drivers on one and the random stuff on the other, then only the oddballs go in a drawer. And yeah, I gave up on labels after one Sharpie incident, so I tape a little index card to the cabinet door listing what's in the back row.
