That $40 knife sharpener I bought 8 years ago is still going strong
Back when I was in college I picked up this cheap Chef's Choice sharpener at a yard sale for like $40. Thought it would be junk but it was the only thing I could afford. Fast forward to now and that thing has sharpened every dull blade that came through my kitchen. Neighbors borrow it, friends bring over their sad knives. I keep waiting for it to die so I can justify getting a fancy whetstone setup but nope still works perfect. Anyone else got an old kitchen tool that refuses to quit?

It's a sharpener, not a family heirloom.

I remember reading somewhere that cheap sharpeners sometimes outlast the expensive ones because they just don't have fancy parts to break.

My KitchenAid mixer is like 15 years old and the paint is chipping off but it still whips egg whites like a champ lol. Meanwhile I’ve dropped like $200 on backup bowls that cracked in a year. @hannahm39 called it an heirloom but honestly my mixer looks like it survived a war so maybe it is a family treasure just a beat up one.
