That time my neighbor Nancy said to ditch the recipe and wing it on the chicken seasoning
I was stuck on what to make for dinner last Tuesday, texted my friend Sarah, and she said just throw random spices on the chicken and see what happens. So I grabbed cumin, paprika, and some garlic powder, no measuring, and it actually came out way better than the written recipe I usually follow. Has anyone else found that eyeballing spices works better than following exact measurements for quick dinners?

Ngl that just sounds like a lucky accident.

Does anyone else feel like our obsession with exact recipes is kind of a newer thing, and people used to just cook by feel more often? I mean, @jesse_green55 you're right that it could be luck but I've noticed the same thing with baking too, where slightly different flour or humidity changes everything anyway. Maybe recipes are just a starting point and the real magic is in trusting yourself a little.

Right there with you @cameronn62, my neighbor once told me the same thing and now I barely look at recipes for chicken anymore. I just grab whatever spices smell good and it always turns out better than when I stress over amounts. Even if @jesse_green55 calls it luck, I'd rather trust my gut than follow rules for a quick dinner.
