The $4 onion chopper that made me ditch my chef knife for 3 weeks

I bought one of those plastic onion choppers at the salvage store in Columbus for $4 last month just to try it. My eyes would water so bad every time I diced onions that I'd avoid recipes with them. The first night I used it I cut up 3 onions in under a minute with zero tears and it clicked. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has a single cheap tool that quietly replaced a skill you thought you needed to master. What's yours?

I know exactly what you mean. My hands shake a little from arthritis, so I always struggled with cutting anything finely. A $5 garlic press changed my life. I used to spend so long mincing garlic by hand and it would always be uneven anyway. Now I can make a whole pot of sauce without any trouble at all. It is funny how the little plastic things do more for you than the fancy knives someone gave me for my wedding.

Hate to be that guy @eva_adams68, but plastic choppers dull fast so don't toss your knife yet.
