The neighbor who tried to convince me to cook pasta in my coffee maker

Last Tuesday, my neighbor Dave from across the street knocked on my door while I was meal prepping. He saw me boiling water for spaghetti and insisted I should just use my Mr. Coffee machine instead, since it 'already heats water perfectly.' I told him that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, but he wouldn't drop it until I showed him the manual. Has anyone else ever had someone suggest something so weird for dinner?

Wait did Dave think the coffee maker has a pasta setting or something? Ngl that's the kind of logic you'd get from a guy who uses a lawnmower to trim his hedges. Did he actually think the machine would just shoot out spaghetti noodles like a Keurig pod? Honestly I'm half curious what kind of weird pasta he eats if he thinks coffee flavored water would taste good.

Gotta admit, I used to be the kind of person who would try anything once in the kitchen. I even put leftover spaghetti sauce through a blender once because I thought it would make it smoother. But reading this, I'm starting to think Dave might have been onto something crazy. I mean, imagine the look on his face when he realized the coffee maker wasn't going to produce a hot steaming bowl of fettuccine. That's the kind of logic you'd expect from someone who thinks a microwave can toast bread. I guess I'm just glad he didn't try to brew a pot of soup.

Actually, a few years back I would have laughed Dave out of the kitchen too. But last Christmas my nephew accidentally put chicken broth through my coffee maker trying to make instant ramen, and you know what? It worked fine. No coffee taste, just hot broth. So now I can sort of see Dave's logic in a weird way. Not saying I'd try pasta in there, but I used to think you couldn't reheat pizza in a microwave without it getting soggy, and now I put a cup of water in with it and it works great. I guess sometimes the crazy neighbors end up teaching you something.
