Used to just buy whatever chicken was on sale, now I actually check the sell-by date after getting sick twice
I never used to even look at the dates on meat. Just grab the cheapest pack and go. But after two separate incidents where my chicken went bad a day early, I started checking. First time was a pack from Aldi that smelled off when I opened it, second was a family pack from Walmart that turned slimy in the fridge. Now I always reach to the back of the display to find the latest date. Anybody else gotten burned by bad meat before?

Walmart chicken got me THREE times before I finally learned my lesson. The slimy texture is the WORST because you think it's fine until you open the bag and get hit with that rotten smell. Now I'm THAT person who digs through the whole meat case just to find a pack with at least a week left. It takes forever but I swear it's worth it because I haven't gotten sick since. I even started freezing chicken right when I get home if the date is close.
