Hit $50 saved in a month just from using my freezer differently
I started doing this thing where I cook a double batch of chili or pasta sauce on Sunday and freeze half. After 4 weeks I added up what I saved from not buying takeout on busy nights and it came to $52. That's basically a free week of gas for my truck. I also started throwing leftover veggies into a bag in the freezer and using them for soup stock once it's full. Has anyone else tracked their savings from batch cooking? I bet it adds up faster than people think.

Oh man I gotta admit I was totally skeptical about this whole freezer thing for years. I always thought it was a waste of time because I'd just forget what I put in there and let it get buried under ice crystals. But you describing your actual numbers changed my mind, that $52 is real money and not just some theoretical savings. I started doing the veggie scrap bag trick after reading your post and my last batch of stock saved me from buying the boxed stuff for like two months straight.

Different take here, @alice_hart. The $52 works if you actually keep up with it, but most people I know toss that bag of scraps after a week because it turns into a science experiment in the back of the freezer. Happy it clicked for you though, just saying the system has a failure point for the rest of us.
