Honestly, the difference in my deck's wood after just one season of using a cheap sealer versus a proper oil-based one is night and day.
Tbh, the cheap stuff I slapped on last spring peeled and grayed by August, but after stripping it and applying Penofin this month, the cedar looks rich and protected, so what's your go-to deck finish that actually lasts?

People forget to check the wood's moisture level before they seal it. Applying oil to damp decking traps water inside and ruins the finish faster than any cheap product would. A simple moisture meter is a game changer for making any sealer last.

Oh man, that explains SO much. I definitely ruined my last deck by sealing it right after a rain because I was impatient. The finish peeled in like six months and I just blamed the brand. A moisture meter would have saved me a ton of time and money.
