I finally fixed my squeaky floor with a trick from a 90 year old neighbor
Last Tuesday, the squeak in my hallway was driving me crazy, so I went to ask Mr. Jenkins next door if he had any ideas. He told me to find the joist, drill a pilot hole at an angle, and drive a 3 inch drywall screw right next to the nail. I did it in about 20 minutes and the floor is totally silent now. Has anyone else tried this method on an old house?

My 1920s bungalow had a squeak right by the front door for years. I tried talcum powder and everything. Last month I finally did the screw trick with 2.5 inch deck screws because that's what I had. You have to be sure you hit the joist, but once you do, it's like magic. It's crazy how one screw in the right spot can fix a noise that drove you nuts for so long.

I had the same issue with my old floorboards. Using a stud finder to locate the joist made all the difference for me. It's such a relief when that squeak finally stops.
