I finally sealed my concrete patio last fall. The difference in how it looks after one winter is huge.

My buddy skipped sealing his new driveway, said it was an extra cost he didn't need. Fast forward one spring and the whole thing is a patchwork of gray and white stains from the road salt. He spent more on a special cleaner to try and fix it than the sealer would have cost. Now he's got to wait for it to fully dry out this summer so he can seal it anyway, which feels like doing the job twice.

But sometimes you just have to learn the hard way. He saved a few bucks up front and paid for it later, which is a pretty common life lesson. At least now he knows for next time.

That's a classic move, like @rowanharris's buddy. I once put off sealing a walkway so long I think the cracks sealed themselves with dirt. It never pays to skip that step.
