My bathroom fan choice came down to a quiet hum or a jet engine

I had to pick between a basic $40 fan and a fancy $120 one that promised to be super quiet. I went cheap, thinking a fan is a fan. Now it sounds like a small plane is trying to land in my ceiling every time I turn it on. My neighbor actually texted to ask if everything was okay. Anyone have a good, actually quiet fan brand they would swap in?

What kind of noise does it make when you flush? I made the same cheap fan mistake in my last apartment (the kind of place where the walls were basically paper). I convinced myself the noise was fine, you know, for airflow. Then my cat started hiding under the bed every time I showered, which felt like a pretty clear review of my choice. I ended up swapping it for a Panasonic whisper quiet model, and the difference was honestly shocking. It's just a gentle hum now, no more feeling like I'm prepping for takeoff.

Maybe check the install, sometimes it's just loose.

Disagree, Sean, a loose install wouldn't cause that specific noise. Sounds more like a worn part to me.
