My cousins always want to help with home fixes, but I say no
Many people believe having relatives assist with DIY tasks builds good ties. I find it often leads to rushed jobs and extra clean-up. I'd rather take my time and do it right by myself.

You had to redo the whole floor after just two months?

I read a home repair book that said a rushed job with help often takes twice as long to fix. The author, a contractor named Mike, wrote about having to rewire a whole kitchen after his brother-in-law tried to help. It turned a weekend project into a month-long mess. I learned it's better to just say no nicely and work alone.

My cousin helped me tile a bathroom floor a few years back and we had to rip it out and redo it two months later. I used to think it was a nice way to spend time together, but I mean, it just costs more time and money in the end. Now I see it your way completely, doing it alone is slower but actually less stress. You still have to clean up after helpers anyway.
