Question about the right way to mix joint compound. I was doing it wrong for a decade.

Been mixing mine in a five gallon bucket for years... just add water until it looks right. Honestly, if the walls are smooth when you're done, how wrong could it have been?

My buddy tried that "looks right" method last month and his whole skim coat cracked. Susan's right that it can work, but sometimes you really do need to measure. He's back to using the bag instructions now.
