Remember when everyone used to just slap paint over wallpaper?

I was helping my buddy in his 1950s house in Toledo and we found four layers of paint over old floral paper. The wall was bubbling in the bathroom from steam. We had to strip it all back, which took a full weekend with a steamer and scraper. It's a mess that just gets worse for the next person. Anyone else run into this nightmare during a reno?

Spot the same cheap mindset with flipped houses. They'll caulk over cracked trim instead of replacing it, knowing the buyer won't notice until it's their problem.

Honestly, it's a symptom of the "just make it work for now" mindset. You see it everywhere, like when people use duct tape for a quick fix instead of replacing a broken hose, or when landlords slap cheap paneling over old walls. It saves five minutes today but creates a huge, hidden problem for later. That paint over wallpaper is the perfect, crusty example of passing the buck to the next guy.

Come on, sometimes a quick fix is all you can afford or have time for. Not everyone has the cash or energy for the "right" way.
