Serious question, I had a paint sprayer hose blow out while doing my garage ceiling

I was up on a ladder in my garage in Cincinnati, spraying a coat of Kilz primer. The hose from my Graco sprayer suddenly split near the gun, spraying primer all over my new workbench and the floor. I shut it off fast, but it made a huge mess. I had to clean everything with mineral spirits and go buy a new hose from the hardware store. Has anyone else had a sprayer hose fail like that, and is there a way to check them before they go?

My uncle in Dayton had a similar blowout with his Wagner hose last fall. He said it was kinked behind his toolbox for months before it finally gave out. Now he just runs his hand down the whole length before starting to check for soft spots.

My old Wagner hose lasted eight years before it split. I never did that hand check thing, just made sure it wasn't pinched under anything heavy. Those hoses are pretty tough. I figure if you're getting soft spots in a couple seasons, something is rubbing against it wrong or the paint is sitting in the sun too much.

That kink behind the toolbox is a good point from olivia857. I always check for that and also look for any cracks or shiny, stretched spots on the hose, especially near the ends. Replacing the hose every couple of seasons is cheaper than cleaning up a mess like yours.
