Thought those $10 smart plugs were junk, now I'm a believer

I bought a 4-pack of Kasa outlets on clearance at Walmart thinking they'd fail in a week. Three months later they've survived my garage dust and a power surge that took out another device. Has anyone else had cheap smart gear actually outlast the expensive stuff?

A power surge took out another device but not those cheap Kasa plugs? I gotta hear more about that, what was the other device that fried? I have a few of those same clearance Kasa plugs scattered around my house and they've been ticking along fine too, even the one plugged into the ancient outdoor extension cord. It's wild how sometimes the budget stuff just refuses to die while the expensive gear craps out at the first hiccup.

Lol right? My expensive LED desk lamp got zapped, dead as a doornail, but the Kasa plug it was plugged into? Still ticking like nothing happened. I'm half convinced those cheap things are built from old Nokia phone parts or something. You'd think the surge would fry the cheaper component first but nah, it's like they're made of pure spite. Maybe the engineers at Kasa just laughed and said "we'll make these things so basic they'll survive a nuclear blast." Meanwhile my $60 lamp is in the trash and a $7 plug is outliving it. Go figure.
