Discovered a cheap fix for sticking doors that actually works
My bedroom door has been sticking all winter and I kept putting off fixing it. Finally googled around and someone suggested rubbing a bar of soap along the edge where it rubs. Tried it with a cheap Dial bar from the dollar store and it slides smooth as butter now lol. Anybody else got a weird quick fix like that for squeaky hinges or something?

Honestly, is it just me or are half the best fixes in life just stuff you already have in your kitchen or bathroom? The soap thing is genius because it's basically the same concept as waxing a drawer runner, just way cheaper and faster. I noticed that pattern with so many things - people think they need some specialty product but really a bar of soap, a little vegetable oil, or even a pencil lead will do the same job for pennies. It's like we all got conditioned to buy expensive crap when the simple stuff works better half the time.

Oh I've definitely done the soap trick before, it works great. For squeaky hinges though, I just spray a little WD-40 on a q-tip and dab it right where the pin meets the hinge. That way you don't get overspray on the door or wall. Like with the soap, you gotta make sure you wipe off any extra so it doesn't drip or attract dust.

And HERE I am thinking I'm some kind of genius for just slapping some butter on a squeaky door hinge in a pinch. But no, you guys are out here with your fancy q-tips and precision application. Meanwhile I'm over here like "if it's good enough for my toast it's good enough for my door". I guess that explains why I had ants marching through my kitchen last summer though. Your way sounds ALOT more professional.
